What the heck!!!

What the heck is going on??  This rain stuff has gotta stop.  You'd never, in 87 million years, believe what happened here this morning. We are supposed to be enjoying ourselves.  Dad had to drive to Sydney to work this morning. Mum and I were going to have a quiet morning and meet up with some friends for an early luncheon later on.  Dad left at 4am. It was pitch black.  Who gets up at 4am?  Not me, that's for sure. He was no sooner out the door than there was a long beep. I sat bolt upright in my bed. It stopped. I laid down again.  30 seconds later .... another long beep!!  I sat bolt upright in bed again. This time, however, I was joined by Mum.  What the heck is going on???  Every 30 seconds from there on in there was this ear splitting long beep. I was out of there.  I couldn't find anywhere to escape. I was trembling and started to pant like you wouldn't believe. I had to get away. I went into the bathroom. It was as far away as I could get. I stood trembling, panting and just stared at the wall.  Mum couldn't find me. I could hear her calling but ..... that noise ..... OMD!!  .... My ears!! When she found me she tried to cuddle me and take me back to bed. No way was I having any of that.  She tried treats. I soon told her what she could do with those. No way was I touching them.  Mum had no idea what to do. She finally brought my bed into the bathroom and I did crawl into it and I kinda settled down. I stopped panting but I was still shaking.  She left me there but kept coming in to check on me from time to time.  She couldn't ring anyone until 8am ... 5 whole hours (crikey, everything's happening in fives for me lately) .....  I had to put up with that beep all that time.  The problem was THE RAIN!!  It caused a short or something in the burglar alarm.  The man on the phone told Mum how to stop it beeping. Oh the relief!!  It took me about an hour after that to settle down.  Mum had to coax me out of the bathroom with breakfast.  Now to catch up on my beauty sleep!!

Wanna run .... but not just yet ..... Love, Charlie.

  1. OMD!! Those beeps must be too shrill for our doggie ear drums aye? I have no experience with the burglar alarm, only thunderous thunder that makes your heart jumped, bounced, dropped.. whatever! I will bark back at it for scaring the he'll out of me & Mom. Mom has to calm me down too. Scary! Hope you are caught up with your beauty sleep, peacefully!

  5. Oh, you poor you! We've had some beeping here lately as well, but not that long and not as often (the batteries in the smoke alarms, change one and the next day another one starts). I think ice-cream is needed. And a lot of it!!

  7. Crikey Charlie...I am screaming now...WILL SOMEBUDDY PLEASE TELL ME WHY THESE THINGS HAPPEN IN THE WEEEEE HOURS OF THE AM. LIKE THE BATTERY IN THE SMOKE ALARM OR IN YOUR CASE THE SHORT IN THE ALARM. THOSE ARE THE MOST SHRILL EAR DRUM PIERCING THINGS IN THE WORLD. BLESS YOUR HEART. Once the battery back up on our burglar alarm died. It is located in the coat closet...my peeps searched the house high and low for that beep. It was on the weekend so no service folks available. The peeps called the 1-800 number and were told how to disconnect it. GIVE YOUR MOM A HIGH 5 FOR BEING ABLE TO DISCONNECT!!! YAY HER!! I'M SO SORRY YOU WERE SCARED BUT I UNDERSTAND

Yes my Granny had Raynaurds. Her fingers would turn purple. Her doc (mom called him a Quack) just told her to wear gloves!

  10. Poor Charlie! You're sure having a tough time lately! We had some neighbors move in across the street last summer. I think they were from some Asian country. One day their smoke detector started beeping on and off, like it needed new batteries. We could hear it from across the street! After hearing it for several days, we figured they didn't know what it was. So Dad finally went over and explained it to them. Boy, were they glad!

  13. So sorry you had to go through that. And I know Mum felt terrible that she couldn't fix it for you. Sometimes my Mom sets off the smoke detector when she makes toast and we are NOT happy with her.

  14. We don't like mysterious beeps either! We had a HUGE thunderstorm yesterday. Our back room is flooded....again! So far we haven't had any beeps, though.

  16. Oh my goodness what a horrid horrid experience Charlie. Poor you. We do hope it stops raining soon. At the weekend Gail was in email contact with one of our neighbours in Torridon, who divides his time between NW Scotland and Sydney. He is in Sydney just now and says it has lately been much wetter than Scotland!

  22. I think you'd better get some ear plugs, Charlie. No dog of such a good nature as you should have to put up with such nonsense!

Failing the ear plugs, I think perhaps a sledge-hammer would solve the problem...pronto!

  23. Oh Crikey Charlie I thought it was going to be the smoke detector that always happens in the middle of the night. Batteries die at night you know. The upstairs one Lee can take it apart easily but the basement one is different it is on the ceiling not the wall. Lee took a mallet to the darn thing that shut it up permanently. So the rain was trying to break into your house to get dry ~ makes perfect sense to me.

  24. Oh dear, Charlie.
I hate our smoke alarm and the co alarm is even louder. Even my kitty brofurs are spooked by those...but a burglar alarm, now that would be horrid. 5 hours??? That is torture. Glad you survived to tell us about it.And it got fixed. Phew!

And the fire alarm...that just goes and goes. Boss Boy would not go in the gym at his school during kindergarten ad first grade, because once when he was in there the fire alarm went off for a drill and he was so traumatized he refused to ever go in there again.
