It's nearly Halloween!!

How bad is this??  Mum put me in Doggy Day Care today.  AND why did she do that you may ask!!  So she could go shopping and not worry about me.  That's why!!  Is that a good reason??  I don't think so. BUT she was shopping with my two legged sister Jenni for Halloween. SO .... it WAS a good reason!!  I LOVE Halloween.  It's better than Christmas at our house.  We get heaps of kids calling in and we scare 'em half to death. The little girls LOVE it. They like it better than Christmas too. How peculiar is that?  They don't get any presents at Halloween and they LOVE getting presents. They wanted to dress up as pussy cats this year.  Mum and Jen found them costumes today and they tried them on tonight. You'll be pleased to know Miss G LOVED her costume and didn't want to take it OFF!!!  Wonders will never cease, aye??

A bit of face paint and they'll look just like kitty kats, aye??

Miss G's almost got it right!!
I didn't see any costume for me or Murphy or Miss PoppyPoo Poo Pants so I'm pretty happy about that.  (Charlie's Mum here ..... he didn't see a costume but that doesn't mean there isn't one) Mum and Jen have been making treats for the kids. They look awesome.

Mum had to put the eyes on.

Jen did the legs. Pretty neat, aye??

I hope we have enough this year. We always seem to run out. We are the most popular house in our area and every year it seems to get bigger and bigger. I've only been here for one year but Mum and Dad have been doing it for about five years now and they are getting better and better at it. Last year was great and I think this year will be even better. Halloween was a bit slow to catch on in Australia and it has only been big the last few years. The first time kids came to Mum and Dad's door they didn't know what they were supposed to do but they soon learnt and now they have as much fun as the kids. I'm really looking forward to Halloween night.  Oh!  AND as for doggy day care. I didn't mind.  I really like going. I had the best day but crikey I'm tired. Think I'll have an early night!!

Wanna run (but not tonight) .... Love, Charlie.

  1. Well many would say doggy day care is better than shopping. The costumes look great. We are all getting excited for the big day. Have a tremendous Thursday.

    1. Yeah Molly. Doggy day care IS better than shopping. Especially here in Australia as we are not allowed in shops and would have to wait in the car. With temperatures like we get you wouldn't want to be waiting in the car. You might just cook.

    1. I got locked in a bit last year but most of the time I got to play too. I like it when Dad scares the kids AFTER they get their treat. They drop it and I GET it. Yummo!!

    1. It's really catching on big time here now. It's great for the little kids. We close the doors at 8pm because the teens can be a bit of a handful but all in all the kids, big and small, are great!! We have a sign telling them that we won't be participating after 8pm and so far that has been respected by all.

Halloween, when I was growing up in the UK, was in its original sacred form, honouring the disturbed spirits who had not quite made it 'upstairs'. By lighting candles in lanterns we were supposed to be releasing those spirits through the smoke. To help them celebrate their release, we would dunk for apples (fish apples out of water with our teeth only - no hands allowed!), search for toffee apples in dark corners and, in the candle light, peel apples to determine who our future loves would be...and we awake the next day to the arrival of All the Saints.

Less commercial, more innocent days... But if I'd had a pretty frock like Missy G's I am sure I would not have objected to wearing it &*> Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Crikey Aunty ..... thanks for sharing those memories. That sounds like fun too. Mum's going to do the fish for apples and the search for toffee apples thingies after we close the doors for the night. The little girls are always on such a high after all the excitement and that might just quieten them down for a bit before bed. They don't get any treats. They just have fun handing them to others so a toffee apple won't hurt them, aye??
Mum remembers those less commercial and more innocent days very fondly too but we have to move with the times I guess. I think the little girls will look back on these days with fond memories too, aye?? Who knows what's in front of them?

  7. We doggies get totally confused by Halloween. There are scary monsters at our door and we want to bark at them. Then we usually end up stuck in Mom's office! But your little girlies look so cute and not scary at all! Did you get to eat any of those treats?

    1. Not yet, Chester and Joey .... not yet but I'm workin' on gettin' me some. The little girls won't look scary but everybody else will and the house will be totally haunted.

  8. We don't get kidlets at our door on that night because we live a tad rurally...so they get in the cars with adults, and go t & t'g in the suburbs down the road in town...
Just as well, cause I would go nutzo. Growlmy & Pawppy do not dogabrate it either, they actually go to Church, because its also 'Reformation Day', and they go to celebrate that instead, no costumes needed, unless they want to look like peeps from the late 1400's, early 1500's, BOL!

Cute kitties and mousie ya got there, Charlie! Ms G will do well to keep it on when she goes t&t'g!!

    1. That's why Jenni and her family come to our house. They don't get kids at their place because it's rural too. We get lots of kids arriving in cars with their folks. I would like to see Growlmy and Pawppy all dressed up like people in those early days. Mum says they probably do get dressed up for Reformation day in Germany. They have a public holiday for it over there.
Miss G loves her mousie outfit. Here's hoping it stays on ALL night.

  12. Pussy cats?!! What's wrong with being whippets, we'd like to know.

Halloween is a hit or miss around here. The local Girl Guides put out a map of people who participate and last year, stuck orange balloons in letterboxes that could be displayed by people who wish to participate.

    1. Good idea ..... whippet costumes!! If only Mum could sew. She's not very talented.
Good on the girl guides. what a good idea. We don't need to advertise with orange balloons anymore. We get kids from everywhere. It's actually getting a bit too big.

  19. Here in Denmark Halloween also is a bit slow. We are only decorating a little and no one comes to trick or treat. But in February, we have Shrove Tuesday, and here in the countrysite costumed children comes on horseback and collect donations for the riding club. Then they have a treat and they are singing a song for us.

  20. Oh yeah, if there was no costume for you it is best to NOT complain about day care! We are getting scared cuz dad just said costumes were on sale!

  21. Mommy says that Halloween has slowed down since she was a kid. She said they used to go for blocks and blocks to every house. Now the kids seem to limit it to houses they know and to their immediate area. Lots have house parties instead of going door to door. We have never experienced Halloween in Kingston. Our neighbours said we will likely get about 20 kids unless we keep open later and wait for the big kids to come around. They said the little ones come between 5 pm and 7 pm.
