Who the heck is John Oliver?????

Crikey ...... who the heck is this John Oliver bloke?????  My Mum's Dad's name was John Oliver. He was a real good bloke. He died when Mum was just 2 years old.  He loved vegemite!!  NO ..... it wasn't what killed him.  This other John Oliver bloke is all over our TV screens this morning giving us Aussies a bad wrap. Who the heck is this bloke???  Mum's NEVER heard of him before. Not that that means anything. There's a lot she's NEVER heard of but I'd sure like to see more of this John Oliver bloke.  He might be giving us a bit of a hard time but CRIKEY ..... is he funny or what?????  Mum nearly fell out of bed (she was watching good morning Australia in bed ... lazy, aye?) when she saw that kangaroo pooping in the vegemite jar. Just as well Dad didn't bring her a cuppa to bed. She would have spat it all over the place. John Oliver, aye??  Great name!!!  He has to be a good bloke. Mum thinks all John Oliver's are great.  Well ..... except for one she met once. He was an insurance broker and OMD was he ever weird. His last name was Plunkett. John Oliver Plunkett.  What sort of a handle is that???  Anyway ..... just thought some of you blokes over there in the mighty US of A might be able to tell me a little more about your John Oliver bloke. Just one thing ...... Hugh Jackman is OURS ... sorry!!

Mum's Dad, John Oliver ..... pretty good lookin' bloke, aye??

with his bike!!

This was with his 1st car.  The family car. Mum got to have a ride in it. See .... I told you she was OLD. These are the ONLY photos she has of her Dad.

Wanna run ...... Love, Charlie.

John Oliver's got a show on HBO - our mommas watch him and saw it last night and thought of our Aussie pals in Blogville, MOL. And "our" John Oliver are actually British, he used to be on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and now he has his own weekly show. He are a funny dude.

  3. Those are great pictures! I'm afraid I don't know much about John Oliver either as I'm not a consumer of TV...but I think I'd be a fan if I did know him. I hear he's taken the chicken industry to task for its treatment of chicken farmers--good stuff, though I think the chickens fare a lot worse!

    1. What do you mean ..... your Dad's not crazy as a box of frogs. He's got CLASS, mate!! Anyone that can eat vegemite directly from the tube is ok by me. I LOVE it on toast. We don't buy tubes at our house. We buy BIG jars. Mum gets it out with a spoon and eats it straight from the spoon. She LOVES her vegemite.
My Granddad, John Oliver, should be on your TV. He's a blast from the past!!!!!!!

    1. Crikey .... he was, wasn't he?? He loved animals. All animals!! He bred wire haired foxies and he loved English Bulldogs and bull terriers. You know those white ones with pink eyes. He had pigeons and birds and ferrets and you name it, he had it. He drove Nan mad always bringing home strays. I must do another post on him. Nan has some funny stories to tell about his animals.

  18. I think John Oliver the satirist is British, so maybe you might as ask the Brits and not us in the US of A but he has been on the Boob Tube lately. We have a mechanic whose name is Plunkett in Cincinnati and we say your car plunks around when you take it to him.
    Thanks for being a friend

  23. Hello - I wanted to make sure you heard about Hazel Bluhm's death today, and perhaps you could let her friends in the Greyhound community know. I was unable to comment on her blog, because she moderates comments, and is now unable to do that. Karen has the details here:

    http://kareninthewoods-kareninthewoods.blogspot.com/2015/05/rip-hazel-bluhm-class-greyhounds-rving.html#comment-form

And I posted about Hazel on my blog here:

Thank you - Hazel was a wonderful person and will be missed by us all.
