We stayed at the best place!! Lot of pictures AGAIN!! Sorry ....

On our recent road trip we got to stay on a farm.  Crikey it was good.  Mum and Dad looked at it years ago when our Harri was alive but never got to go there and they so wanted to but thought I would be a nightmare. Have they no faith??  Anyway they decided to risk it. Mum told Dad that they had never NOT done something they wanted to do because of their dog, ever before, so why should they start now. Good thinking, Mum!!  It was a working sheep farm with a few cattle thrown in and it was BIG.  The owners were really nice people. As well as the sheep and cattle they bred cavoodles.  They had heaps of dogs.  One border collie, one kelpie, one blue heeler, 2 male poodles and 3 female cavies.  There were 2 houses on the property. The owners and their dogs lived in one and we got to stay in the other. It was the original farm house and ever so pretty. We had the whole house to ourselves. It was fully fenced but the fence wasn't very high and Mum knew I could jump over it if I wanted to and as there were sheep, chooks, rabbits, roos, possums and goodness only knows what else on the other side of the fence she was sure that jump over it I would. She could ALWAYS stop our Harri and our Lucy from doing anything. She had them so well trained. Don't know what happened to me.  Anyway she was paranoid that I would jump the fence and terrorise all the farm animals BUT ....... listen to this ...... I didn't!!  Not that I didn't want to. I just decided that I really liked this place and I sure wanted to return one day so I was Mr perfect for once. When we first got there she kept me on a VERY tight leash. Matter of fact she had two leashes on me. One attached to my harness and one attached to my collar. I do have a terrible habit of backing out of my collar or harness when the mood takes me. Mum figured with both on at once I'd be safe. We went round the whole yard and I got to see the chooks and sheep outside the fence. Dad let me get up close and personal with the sheep (still on lead of course). Mum and Dad couldn't believe how calm I was but they still weren't going to let me off the lead. That afternoon we sat outside on the verandah to watch the sun go down (with me still on lead)and the owners popped over to put the chooks away for the night.  They brought the dogs with them. One of the poodles jumped MY fence and came over toward us. I got REAL angry. Mum and Dad have NEVER seen me angry with another dog before.  I backed out of my harness and I chased that dog right back over the fence. He took off at a rate of knots. Am I brave or what??  The hide of him coming into MY YARD!!  He acted as if he owned the place. Who'd he think he was???  Mum couldn't believe her eyes. She thought I'd just jump the fence and join him and all the other dogs but no way ...... I was keeping an eye on things and no-one was going to come into my yard. No more lead for me. I could go wherever I liked in MY yard. There's no way I was leaving it for even one minute.  That poodle bloke wasn't going to get back in MY yard. No way!!!!!  Crikey I had a good time there.  Those other dogs came over every morning and every afternoon too but ..... did any of them jump the fence and get into my yard??  Well yes ...... the kelpie did the next morning ..... but I got rid of him too, the big whimp .....  and that was it. I scared 'em all off, aye?? We stayed for 6 whole days.  I sure would like to live on a farm.  I had the best time there.  Mum said we are going back again real soon. I sure hope so.
The private road in.
Nice gum trees and lots of grass.
Our first glimpse of the cottage.

A watering hole.

Where's all his mates??

As if that fence and harness and collar could keep me in, aye??
A rusty gate ..... why would anyone take a photo of that??
Running in MY yard!!
With Dad!
Just stay out THERE you blokes.  This is MY yard.
This big bloke tried to head butt me through the fence. Why does everyone want to head butt me? Miss PPP does all the time.
The chooks ..... I didn't even chase them!!  Am I a saint or what??
That's our travel car. Dad calls it the whippet bus!!

How beautiful are these blokes. I love cows.  So does Mum. She could look at 'em all day. She'd hug 'em if she could.

Lizards ...... I'm looking at lizards.
We went out one night and on the way home we saw the moon rising. It looked much more spectacular than the picture shows us.
AND on our way out early the next morning it was still there.  Can you see it??

Wanna run .... Love, Charlie.

  2. Such a fun time for you with all those wonderful animals and smells and yard to run in. I would love to help you chase those lizards. We have one under our shed and Dad won't let me dig to get it. Your Mum took a really amazing moon picture.

The moon in the pictures was last months full moon. We were home for this one. It'd be pretty down your way. It's really nice in the bush and over the ocean too.

  9. What a good boy you are Charlie! Nothing would have kept a couple of merle herding dogs I know from getting to work on that farm. But they do get kind of MY yard-ish about places we visit. I guess that is what happens when you really like somewhere. And that is one nice farm! I love the rusty gate and that you enjoyed the moon from start to finish. My cousin raised a cow for a community (4H if you know what that is) project and I did hug it a few times. I loved it, the cow did not.

    1. Crikey no ..... please tell ..... what's a community 4H project??

      Delete
    2. 4-H is a US youth club, of sorts. It is mostly for rural kids, it keeps them out of trouble by connecting them with each other, mentors and the community. A common 4-H project is raising a farm animal. My cousin, who by no coincidence became a dairy farmer, raised a dairy cow.

    3. What an excellent idea. I'm glad your cousin became a dairy farmer. How good is that? We animals are great for troubled peeps, aye?? In Australia some of the prison farms (for not real dangerous crims) have a project where a guide dog puppy is raised by a prisoner. They do a real good job with the puppies and the successful rehabilitation of the prisoners is amazing compared to the prisoners who do not take part.

  13. Oh wow Charlie, you are a real good yard-defender. I bet your mum was ever so proud of you! I have just one question: what is a cavoodle?? Is it a mixture between a cavia (that is Dutch for guinea pig) and a poodle?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Crikey Mara ..... how funny are you. Mum's got this mental picture of a cross between a guinea pig and a poodle in her head and it's not a good look. A cavoodle is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle. They are VERY popular in Australia at present.

  15. We kept wondering what the heck is a chook?? We never heard that word before. Chickens!!! Yum:) And cows - yummier:) That looks like a very fun place to stay. We think we might have jumped the fence in no time at all, but then we probably wouldn't have been given the chance to be off leash. Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventure.

    1. Well Bertie ....... not always ..... but I was good at the farm, aye?? Our Lucy couldn't be trusted with sheep either. When she was just a very new puppy Mum and Dad let her off lead at a picnic stop they visited. She was tiny wee but she saw a bantam chook in the distance and took off at a rate of knots after it. There was no way she was coming back. Mum and Dad heard all these squarks coming from the chook and finally (after what seemed like hours) Little Lu returned. They still don't know what happened to the chook. They just threw Lu in the car and left as quickly as they could. How embarrassing!!
